The classical image is representative of prosperity and used prominently, especially in Diwali rituals and worship.
In Jaipur, traditions continue as lived culture, and the Gaja-Lakshmi visual tradition is one such example: even today, there is a profusion of these images in the bazaars of the city around the time of Diwali.
The variety of Gaja-Lakshmi images popular in Jaipur, over time; presents a spectrum of artistic mediums and styles.
This series presents vignettes from this rich and diverse tradition.
