Presenting a signature selection of vintage 20th c. Gaja-Lakshmi paintings from Jaipur from our extensive collection of these Bazaar paintings.

The classical image is representative of prosperity and used prominently, especially in Diwali rituals and worship.

In Jaipur, traditions continue as lived culture, and the Gaja-Lakshmi visual tradition is one such example: even today, there is a profusion of these images in the bazaars of the city around the time of Diwali.

The variety of Gaja-Lakshmi images popular in Jaipur, over time; presents a spectrum of artistic mediums and styles.

This series presents vignettes from this rich and diverse tradition.
