Chakla: Marble, Belan: Wood
These products designed by architect Vibhuti Sachdev work with the premise of celebrating beauty in the everyday, in objects of daily use at home. Handcrafted by master craftsmen in Jaipur, the products are the result of a long term engagement with architectural and craft traditions of Jaipur.
An essential kitchen item. Roll out fluffy chapattis, paranthas, puris and papads in style...
Hand-carved by a Jaipur master craftsman, the chakla is entirely carved from a single piece of stone (the best quality white marble), ensuring stability in use and long life. The smooth surface is slightly raised in the centre; helping the roti to rotate while it is being rolled, allowing you to achieve perfect circles!
A petalled motif that decorates the rim, and in keeping with tradition, the bottom centre of the Chakla is marked with a flower that enhances its beauty and is considered auspicious.
The belan is carved out of a single piece of seasoned Babool wood. Babool is known for its medicinal properties, and has several uses in Ayurveda. Its oil has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. The shape and proportions of the belan make the process of rolling out rotis a pleasurable experience. Its handles are carved so as to have a massaging effect on the hands. The design of the Belan echoes the motif on the Chakla and the two work beautifully together.
Colour may vary slightly from the picture and the products may have slight imperfections and variations in pattern, being hand-crafted.
