This portfolio presents a selection of archival prints of vintage 20th c. Gaja-Lakshmi paintings from Jaipur. The classical image is representative of prosperity and used prominently in Diwali rituals. In Jaipur, traditions continue as lived culture, and the Gaja-Lakshmi visual tradition is one such example: even today, there is a profusion of these images in the bazaars of the city around the time of Diwali. The variety of Gaja-Lakshmi images popular in Jaipur, over time; presents a spectrum of artistic mediums and styles. The portfolio presents vignettes from one of these styles from this rich and diverse tradition.
