Artist's Statement
In this new body of work inspired by the timeless magic of the festival of light, I create images of consciousness - primarily with the motif of the Hiranyagarbha, the golden womb / cosmic egg, that is considered the primordial source of creation. The ovoid shape, capable of tremendous meditative power, is rendered in gold, silver and copper foils against a background of black, deep blues and indigos - colours traditionally associated with the dark night of Diwali. Against the darkness of this rich natural colour palette, an inner light emerges…
The series also features Diwali Yantras : the classic augmentative Swastika, the mystical energy of the Shree Yantra, and the magical mathematics of 34 Yantra, all bringing auspiciousness, energy, and a meditative mood to the days of Diwali.
