As an introduction to the multi-faceted city of Jaipur (founded in early 18th century), this walk will bring the participants face to face with some unusual, least visited facets of the much-loved touristy city.
We will will explore the scientific and methodical approach underlying the founding of the city, guided equally by ancient Indian architectural Vastu principles, as well as late mediaeval / pre-modern contexts.
A flirtatious first look at Jaipur, uncovering some of its most important tropes: Indian aesthetics, temples, crafts and of course a whiff of the regal culture of royal Jaipur.
-----------------------------------------------------
The walk features a visit to (listed are some options, subject to availability of time):
· Govind Dev Temple: the most prominent temple of Jaipur, located within the royal precinct
· Thatheron ka Rasta: metal-smiths and metal-ware artisans
· Khazanewalon ka Rasta & environs: India’s largest stone sculpting industry
· Maniharon ka Rasta: The lane of bangle makers
· Samrat: special coal-fired tea at this local street-side vendor or Tattoo Café, with a fabulous view
· Swarga Suli: we will climb this historic minaret to get a panoramic view of the city
· Extracts from Black and White: A Typography Walk

The walk is led by Himanshu Verma, a leading art curator who runs several multi-disciplinary arts initiatives in India, and is based in Jaipur.
