Red Earth’s calendar projects have been in circulation for more than a decade now, and are very popular amidst our select followers as they bring together Hindu and Gregorian dating systems together with some great art and design.

The 2023 Red Earth Calendar is based on the 17th edition of The Monsoon Festival (Mumbai; Sept-Oct 2022).

The artworks featured here are culled from two exhibitions held as part of the festival, The Mumbai Monsoon executed in partnership with Tao Art Gallery; and The Monsoon Room, held in association with Method Bandra.

The Monsoon Room created a moody haze around the city’s monsoon experience with photography, graphic art, drawing : three young artists (Khan, Sondagar, Tripathy) essayed their whimsical interpretations of the season in Mumbai. The Mumbai Monsoon: Decoding the Mumbai Monsoon Experience; attempted to create a veritable map of monsoon experience in Mumbai and the little nuances of Monsoon culture attendant therein. It visually theorised varied elements of the largely undocumented mega Mumbai monsoon experience; possibly for the first time in this expansive way...

The ongoing project research and documentation centres around varied sub-themes that are intrinsic to the Mumbai monsoon experience: from landscapes and cityscapes; to the human experience and emotions attendant herein; objects and elements of material culture; the matrix of cultural elements and tropes; and the dark and destructive side of the Monsoon.
