Rothko Saree 1
Saree length: 5.5 m + 80 cm Blouse piece
The Rothko Series: Inspired by Mark Rothko’s abstract paintings and the traditional technique of Ikat practised in the state of Andhra Pradesh, this collection of silk sarees uses vivid colours, creating an overwhelming sensory experience. The resist dyeing technique of Ikat, where the warp or the weft is tied and dyed to achieve multiple colours, creates soft blended edges and segments of colour that bleed into one another along the length of the saree. With subtle colour shifts, each piece is unique.
Tuni Textiles: Conceptual, wearable art
Since its inception in 2006, Tuni has worked experimentally with traditional textile artisans, to create contemporary weaves on the handloom. In 2020 Tuni closed its Bangalore studio; and hence these are the last of Tuni’s wearable textiles. This collection looks towards traditional techniques of Indian weaving coupled with the pattern, colour and texture of works of art from the mid 1900’s, specifically Mark Rothko’s and Paul Klee’s abstract paintings.
Care: Dry clean only.
Air the textile every few months.
Product colour may vary slightly from the picture and the product may have slight imperfections and variations in pattern, being hand-crafted.
